Song of the Day: David E. Sugar - "Party Killer" - "Party Killer" by David E. Sugar sounds like a sandwich of Cake, Beastie Boys, and Crystal Castles with perhaps a dash of Chromeo-esque electro thrown in. It is laidback, funky, minimalistic Hip Pop that can suit at a frat party and hipster club alike. The video is a fun use of layering as David does various "music video" things like sings at the camera, stands profile, plays a guitar overlapping himself doing those same things. Set to release Memory Store, his debut album on Rob Da Bank's Sunday Best Recordings, "Party Killer"does an ample job of teasing the listener into hearing more. Song of the Day: Kaci Battaglia featuring Ludacris - "Body Shots" - The transformation of Kaci Battaglia from tween popstar ("Paradise," "Tu Amors," "I Think I Love You") to sultry dance vixen continues with the release of "Body Shots." Following up her chart-topping "Crazy Possessive," Kaci sings of a debauched night out getting drunk with her friends. With mentions of whipped cream, wet dreams and sucking it down in the lyrics, the inclusion of a rap by Ludacris seemed like a no-brainer. The original version is perfect for pop radio and remixes by Dave Aude and Wawa energize it for clubs. The record is instant. The first time I played it at the club, the crowd was into it and people were either holding up their phones to Shazam it or running up to ask me what it was. Could this be the song that crosses Kaci over to the mainstream? Simply answered, "uh-huh". I think EVERYONE will like it. W...

Song of the Day: ATB - "Could You Believe" - ATB's second single release for 2010, "Could You Believe", takes a page from American pop this year. Channeling the party chords of Ke$ha's "Tik Tok"/Katy Perry's "California Gurlz" and meshing it with the soft and enchanting progressive house of Alexis Jordan's "Happiness", "Could You Believe" has all the right parts with an equal dose of energy that amps the vibe up to a fever pitch. The video shows a couple of hot women who end up playing sexy with one another while ATB makes knowing smiles like a creepy man. Ultimately he pops in to turn their music back on and gives them the A-OK signal before grinning to himself as he leaves. The girls go crazy with laughter and you're left wondering what this has to do with the song. Ultimately it doesn't matter, "Could You Believe" is still a fantastic track. Video - ...

Song of the Day: Robyn - "Hang With Me" - What was originally an acoustic offering on Body Talk Pt.1 serves as the lead single from Body Talk Pt.2, the cautionary "Hang With Me" gets a Robyn-pop upgrade that gives the track more focus and edge than it's strummed contemporary. She keeps up the melancholy on "Hang With Me", encouraging a friends with benefits situation but advising against letting emotions develop as it will just end in heartbreak. An interesting counterpoint to "Dancing On My Own" to be sure. Robyn punctuates the lyrics with the subject of the video, which she spends on tour. A traveling pop singer has little time for love. What the video also proves is that, while they serve as ample tools to promote her across formats, Robyn videos are more like a "gift with purchase" than what really sells her music. These songs stand and attract notice on their own, but please enjoy the...

Song of the Day: Giuletta - "Vertigo" - It's time to welcome a new Aussie pop princess to clubland. While Beatport DJs might know her from the track "Dirty House Music" she did with Marcus Knight a few years back, Giuletta is making her solo debut with the agressively electropop "Vertigo." Imagine Miley Cyrus singing a Pink song with a taste of Ke$has's talk-sing-ing and production by the Ting Tings for an idea. Toughened up for the clubs(and dance radio) by Dave Aude, the energetic tell-off track grows in urgency with every play. The first time I heard it, I knew it was good but it didn't grab me instantly. Listening back to my mixshow, I found myself singing the chorus without even realizing it. Her myspace page alludes to a forthcoming Chris Cox mix which would definitely take this track all the way. Watching the acoustic performance reminds me of a critique that an unsigned Anastacia receive...

Song of the Day: Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP - "We No Speak Americano" - Whether it's Las Ketchup, Vengaboys or "Holly Dolly," it is always fun to watch a novelty pop dance song break around the world. Quite similar in feeling to 30s influenced "Doop," "We No Speak Americano" began in Australia and South America before making its way to Europe, the UK and now the US. The collaboration of Australian artists Yolando Be Cool and producer DCUP samples "Tu Vuo Fa L'Americano," a 1950s song by Renato Carsone for a retro-tinged, bouncey pop dance song with staccato stab and bits of period horns and strings. The results are quite catchy and it will be interesting to see how far this song will go in the US. The official video is a fun take on the lovable tramp Charlie Chaplin who just can't seem to do anything right. It's interesting to note that the sampled lyrics are sung in the Neapolitan language, spoken in Napl...

Song of the Day: Ruff Loaderz & Cut Up Boys - "Music Sounds Better With You" - It's hard to believe that Stardust released the massive "Music Sounds Better With You" over a decade ago in 1998. The discohouse monster which sampled Chaka Khan's "Fire" was produced by Thomas Bangalter (half of Daft Punk) and Alan Braxe with vocals by Benjamon Diamond. Fast forward to 2010: Remixers Ruff Loaderz have teamed up with mashup artists Cut Up Boys to create an updated version for the Ibiza season. The new version stays quite true to the original while refreshing and updating it with a more aggressive bassline, updated electro bleeps and a seemingly new vocal. Remixes take the track in different directions with Esquire going more electro, Inner State on the house tip and Esquire subtley channeling "Strings of Life." While this isn't the most original track idea out there, I guess we should be thankful it's not "Gym and Tonic 2010."...

Song of the Day: Mason - "You Are Not Alone" - Wow, this is not what you would expect from a Mason track. The Dutch duo behind the massive electro-stomper "Exceeder" and recent WMC fave "Corrected" turn the tables and go melancholy progressive with their new single "You Are Not Alone." The track is hauntingly minimal at first and then builds into a throbbing beat with intense analog noise effects. "You Are Not Alone" seems like the perfect closing track with Lisa Jane adding the hauntingly beautiful vocals on top. Remixes by Paolo Mojo and Zoo Brazil increase the intensity and power with harder electro beats while staying true to the almost somber beauty of the original. The animated video is unlike anything I have ever seen before - simultaneously bleak and beautiful while detailing the nightlife adventures of two eccentric female clubbers. Video - ...

Song of the Day: Sky Ferreira - "One" - Imagine a cross between Diana Vickers and Kerli with a touch of vintage Blondie and you've got an idea of Los Angeles based singer/songwriter Sky Ferreira. Though the europop sounding "One" is a bit prettier and glossier than her launch single "17," there is an edge here and you know that Sky will be one to watch because she obviously has something interesting to say. Fans of Miike Snow should definitely check out Sky, as Bloodshy and Avant produced this. With support from Uffie, indie hipster cred is virtually guaranteed. For clubland, remixes by Logistics, BAR9, Teed and Style of Eye are a bit edgy while Wawa delivers the big room mix for mainstream clubs. Video - Youtube Check out more great music in the ...

Video of the Day: Wynter Gordon "Dirty Talk" - 2010 is turning out to be a massive year for Wynter Gordon with three singles impacting at the same time. Her update of "I Feel Love" with Mync and Rhythm Masters topped the Beatport club chart for WMC and was big in Europe. "Toyfriend," a collaboration on the European version of David Guetta's One Love album, has quietly become an underground anthem for drag queens here in the South. All of this, while her debut solo record "Dirty Talk" reached the top of the Billboard club chart with mixes by Chew Fu, Hagenaar & Albrecht, Watchmen, Jeremy Word, Saul Ruiz, Electrolightz and Kim Fai. Listening to the naughty lyrics of the song, the video is nothing like you would expect. Instead of in your face sexuality, the imagery is like a romance novel with a bookish school girl dreaming of being transformed by fairies into a beautiful p...

iPhone new 3.0 OS - Upgraded the OS on my iPhone 3G to OS 3.0 yesterday and I (think) I've noticed that the battery life of the phone is getting worse. Anyone else noticed this? One thing I noticed on the iPod controls that has not been publicised much is that you can change the scrubbing speeds / sensitivity when you put your finger on the white dot at the top to drag your way through a track. Is dead handy for scrubbing through mixes as previously the scrubbing was really set up for 5 minutes songs as oppose to 1hr+ mixes....
